Who is Tillman Branch?!?

Quite often I get asked “where in the WORLD did you come up with the name ‘Tillman Branch Photography?’”

Well… The long answer is I love the name Tillman Branch because it is the area I grew up in.

And when I hear the name Tillman Branch Road I get taken back to a simpler time of summer water fights, corn fields and camping out in the fall with my brothers.

If you have access to REALLY old berkeley county SC maps (1930-1950) and you can find the area I grew up in, you will see it was called “Tillman’s Branch”.
I can only assume that “Tillman” was a real live person at one point in time back in the ’30s, but all of the older people (my grandmother and grandfather) don’t know who he was or if he really ever existed…

The short answer is, I really didn’t think that “Mike Mizzell Photography” had as nice of a ring to it.
